THE THEFT OF THE CENTURY: How the VRA Was Gutted and Why We Aren’t Backing Down.

The ink on the Voting Rights Act of 1965 wasn’t just black; it was red. It was signed by Lyndon B. Johnson, but it was written in the blood, sweat, and tears of activists who stared down state-sponsored terror just to have a say in their own future. For decades, that Act stood as the final line of defense against the vultures of bigotry. It was the "preclearance" that kept the racists in check. It was the guarantee that your zip code or the color of your skin wouldn’t determine whether your vote actually counted.

And then came the cowards in robes.

Let’s be crystal clear: The Supreme Court of the United States has spent the last decade acting as a cleanup crew for the far-right. By dismantling Section 5 and then coming back for the rest, they didn’t just "interpret" the law—they took a sledgehammer to it. They looked at the progress we made and decided it was "no longer necessary" to protect us. Tell that to the people in my home state of Tennessee. Tell that to the voters in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama.

The "colorblind" judicial philosophy they preach is a lie. It’s a smokescreen for a systematic, calculated erasure of Black-majority voting power. They opened the gates, and the MAGA vultures flew right in.

The Tennessee Betrayal

I was born and raised in Tennessee. My parents raised me to respect the Constitution, but what I’m seeing now is a total desecration of it. These MAGA-obsessed, "Trump-at-all-costs" Republicans haven't just won an election; they’ve rigged the board. They’ve sliced and diced our communities, gerrymandered our voices into silence, and effectively stole 12 seats from the Democrats through sheer, unadulterated map-rigging.

This isn't "politics as usual." This is a desperate attempt by a dying breed of fascists to maintain power by ensuring the people they fear most—Black voters—can’t even get to the table. They don’t want a debate; they want a monologue. They don't want a democracy; they want a kingdom where Donald Trump wears the crown and the Supreme Court holds the scepter.

The Face of the Enemy

Donald Trump is a man who has shown zero respect for the Rule of Law, the Constitution, or the fundamental freedoms we claim to hold dear. He is an insurrectionist who paved the way for this lawlessness. He has cultivated a cult of "ass-kissing" sycophants who would rather see the American experiment fail than lose a single ounce of their unearned power.

From the greed-fueled policies to the fascist rhetoric, the goal is clear: Silence the dissenters. Erase the opposition. Rule by fear.

They think because they have the courts, they have the country. They think because they’ve dismantled the VRA, they’ve dismantled our spirit. They are dead wrong. You can move the lines on a map, but you can’t move the fire in our souls. You can close the polling places, but you can’t close our mouths.

We Will Not Falter

To the traitors who voted for this greed: You own this. You own the dismantling of our rights. You own the chaos. You own the fact that you traded your integrity for a man who wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire unless there was a camera nearby.

To my fellow Southerners and my brothers and sisters across the country: Do not be intimidated. They want us to feel hopeless. They want us to look at the gerrymandered maps and the corrupt court rulings and just stay home. That is exactly what they are betting on.

We are not going anywhere. We will not give up. We sure as hell will not be silenced. This is our state. This is our country. This is our democracy. And we are going to fight for it until the very end.

See you at the 50501 Protest. We aren't just making noise; we’re making history.
